New methods of underground infrastructure detection
I’ve become more interested in methods of locating underground utilities as I work in construction and we have run in to some problems on couple of recent projects due to inaccurate maps. In the past, we managed work with basic equipment, but this is no longer effective, especially for urban sites. While looking into different solutions, I came across the Mayaglobal-tm.com website, they use GPR and other technologies for mapping underground infrastructure. These methods looks interesting, but I don’t quite get how much better the results are in real work conditions compared to older methods. I would aprecciate if someone can answer to some of my qestions - how cost effective, time-efficient are they and if you worked with them - I would like to hear about your work.


I’ve worked with this technology a bit, and I can say that the difference between the old and new approaches is really noticeable. We used to rely solely on a cable tracer, but it only provided limited information, especially for old or deeply buried networks. When we first conducted a comprehensive survey, we could see much more clearly what was happening underground. In short, these solutions are worthwhile when there’s risk or uncertainty; it's better to do things properly the first time than to have to redo them later. Are you considering this for a new project, or are there already issues on the site?
