I work in a startup that develops games, and I see how everything goes exactly into this “gray zone” - between entertainment and excitement. And this is not a conspiracy or someone's evil will, but simply a market reaction to demand and algorithms. As it is said in https://www.greaterkashmir.com/tech/gamble-or-game-identity-crisis-of-indias-fastest-growing-apps/, people want to “play and earn”, investors want growth, and developers want to retain users. And here is the result: applications are created that look like games, but in fact operate according to the rules of gambling systems. The most typical example is simple card games or arcades, which at first give a feeling of easy victory, and then sharply increase the difficulty and add “help options” for real money. And even worse - when you are drawn into pseudo-tournaments, where you pay for participation, and allegedly compete with other players, but the winner is “random”, and most often, it seems, not you. Now imagine that teenagers are doing this. My niece downloaded a game that is presented as a dance competition - press buttons to the rhythm, earn points. And inside is in-game currency, with which you can “buy a chance to get to the final,” and so on. Everything is advertised as “developing a sense of rhythm and reaction,” but the mechanics are purely gambling. Especially when you see the animation “almost won,” and you are pushed to try again. Psychologically, this is the same principle as slot machines. What is scary is that the state still does not give clear definitions. If there was at least a label like “contains elements of gambling mechanics,” it would be easier. But for now, all this is disguised as “games of skill,” which are not legally considered gambling, and no one is doing anything about it.

Very accurate observations. Now even ordinary quizzes or puzzles work on the principle of "keep the interest - pay or lose". The very essence of the game as a process is lost. The game turns into a mechanism of attraction, not entertainment.
